We struggled carrying the change mat in one hand and baby in the other, meaning multiple trips. Handles resolved this problem. The problem with these were they were flimsy and on certain surfaces they didn’t feel secure. The rigid base means the change mat can be used anywhere. The thicker change mat padding, creates a more durable and comfortable surface. You can notice this in the high sides which won’t just fall over with a bit of pressure. Our little one loved grabbing and holding onto something. The high sides gave him something to hold onto and fiddle with. He also loved to wiggle his body up.
